Spot the Difference (Banana Leaf Experience)

Banana Leaf
Is one of our (the hubby and me) favorite restos
In Bangkok

It's a bit far from the city
But the food here is all worth the travel.

Spot the Difference (Banana Leaf Experience)

Banana Leaf in Bangkok however,
Is a lot different from the one
in Metro Manila
Where everything's fancy and all expensive
This one is rather similar to that
Som's Noodle House near Power Plant Mall
(That's another food place you should try)
(When you happen to pass by Rockwell Center)

Anyway for this visit,
we had deep-fried seabass (as we usually do)

Check at how these 2 photos look alike.
Fun, isn't it?
The actual food looks exactly the same
As it is presented in the menu!

We also had some stir-fry asparagus
Spot the Difference (Banana Leaf Experience)
Also a bit similar to the prints, right?
(Here's my own asparagus recipe, by the way.)

Finally,
We had pork soup
With seaweeds and egg tofu.

(Not in the menu)
Sorry guys.

We both had young coconut juice to finish up the feast.
After which, we headed off
For a 2-hour, well-deserved traditional Thai massage!

What a meal!
What a weekend!!!

Did you enjoy my photos?
Here are some more while having fun in Starbucks.

Fun Photo Edits (with iPhone 4s)

This is a banana choco-chip muffin from Starbucks
I had one while waiting for my hubby
For a Bourne Legacy movie date
(More like bored legacy to me, by the way!)

Starbuck's Banana choco-chip muffin

And here below is my
Iced caramel macchiato
I love how the caramel seemed to be
Hanging against all odds there.

The photo images above
Are products of my ingenuity, talent and lack of a thing to do. (LOL!)
More of the latter than anything else, really.

Since I don't have a heavy-duty LSR camera,
I use most of what I have in taking photo shots.
These include my
iPhone, free iPhone apps and two steady hands.

With a little touch of Instagram edits
My very plain captures became vivid, tempting and very real.

Here are the raw photos of the two above:

I used Instagram in "tweaking" these images.
I also employed A+ Signature Lite for the "beingwell" watermark.
As well as iPhone's own editing features (e.g. crop, auto-correct colors)

Seriously!
This is the most fun I've had with any gadgets;
Especially with phones, in particular.

Here's what I made with some vegetable images, too.

Disclaimer:
Chocolate chip muffin and a creamy caramel macchiato
Are not your typical 200 calorie snacks.
Point being, I had to do extra cardio workouts
In order to burn the calories I loaded up
From this movie date.

Having fun with Chayote!

I took this photo with an iPhone mobile.
Obviously, it's an image of chayote strips
(sayote in Tagalog)
on top of saute'd garlic, onions and tomatoes.

I was cooking sayote stir-fried for dinner this one time.

I enjoy taking close-up images.
They look so surreal and crisp,
don't you think?
(Just as crisp as every bite of this vegetable!)

What about chayote, though...

Chayote or sayote is shaped like a pear.
In the US, it's already referred to as the vegetable pear.

I enjoy chayote because of its crunchy texture.
It's fun to eat is all I'm saying.
This one's definitely low on calories too!
It contains 0 cholesterol and 0 saturated fats.
Simply put, it's a food for weight watchers.

You can add some shrimps into a chayote dish,
And still maintain a low-calorie meal.
Just remember to detach the shrimp's head
To have a low-cholesterol dish, as well.

Add to add more flavor, add some of
Thailand's spicy condiments, why don't yah?!

Thailand's Spicy Condiments

When you eat in restaurants or food stalls in Thailand,
You will always be served with fish sauce and chili sauce.
We almost always don't use them
But we always have them by our side.

And just like their Lod Chong sweets
I never really fancied these condiments...
(They seemed to be too spicy for me)

However, when I tried them
With their fish dish for instance
Like this one below,

I enjoyed them very much!

What you see by the golden fish' side is a mango salad, by the way.
This salad has a sweet, spicy, tangy taste.
It absolutely compliments this deep-fried sea bass.

If you love spicy foods
Then you'll enjoy Thailand's authentic condiments
Like I do, now.

At home, on the other hand
I make simple condiment recipes myself.
Perhaps, you'd like to try them, too!
Is there anything that doesn't go with
Soya sauce and lime?
I always have them with almost anything fried, in fact.
Plus, it's very easy to do.

Do you like spicy foods?

Craving for Thai's Lod Chong Dessert

Lod Chong is one of Thailand's traditional sweet treats.
This green worm-like dessert is made from pandan and flour.
They are eaten with the syrup made from coconut.
And always served cold, with ice - crushed, cubed or otherwise.

Lod Chong thai dessert

(It's green color reminds me of sayote tops somehow...)

Lod Chong didn't appeal to me at first.
However, when I got to taste it; I was immediately converted!
I will never get tired of enjoying this crazy green noodles.

Caution however, if you are watching your weight.
I suggest Simple Cardio Workouts after having this sweet.
Believe me, it's very heavy to the tummy.

In Thailand, Lod Chong is served in restaurants and sold in food courts.
They always taste good to me wherever I buy them.
I can't make this treat at home, however.
It's a very tedious process.
But that is fine.
I learned how to make Somtam salad, at least.
That's something to be proud of....(she said to herself).

Now, ever tried Teriyaki Sauce in your dish?

Teriyaki Sauce, anyone?

Teriyaki sauce

Kikkoman Teriyaki sauce is truly a great find!
It makes cooking time easier; and the dish flavorsome.
You really have to try it!

Make a Marinade with it even.

Now have a look at some of

Pomfret on Plates

Pomfret on plates

This is what a pomfret fish looks like.
I bought it from a local fresh market in Bangkok.
A bit costly, too!
Ever had one of these?

I cooked them in sour soup.
(Pomfret fish in Sour Broth)

After a good meal, how about some
authentic Thai dessert, then?!
